Army says no to ‘Khomeini rule’ in Egypt

AFP: Egypt will not be ruled by “another (Ayatollah) Khomeini,” the country’s military said on Monday, in reference to the cleric who led Iran’s 1979 Islamic revolution, the official MENA news agency reported.

“Egypt will not be governed by another Khomeini,” the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces said after a three-hour meeting with newspaper editors-in-chief and MENA.

The military rulers made the comment amid concerns over the increased visibility of the Muslim Brotherhood, banned under the regime of president Hosni Mubarak, who stepped down on February 11 after a popular uprising.

Mubarak’s departure raised fears in the West of the creation of an Islamist regime in Egypt, where the Brotherhood is the strongest opposition force.

The Brotherhood says it is not in favour of a religious state.

“The Supreme Council of the Armed Forces will not allow extremist factions to control Egypt,” Deputy Defence Minister Mohammed Mokhtar al-Mella told the journalists on Monday.

The military also reiterated its commitment to transfer power to civilian rule after legislative and presidential elections, and to respect freedom of expression.

It “expressed the hope that the Egypt of tomorrow will be democratic and modern”, MENA reported.

Mubarak in February transferred his powers to the military, which has committed itself to handing the reins to civilian rule after a parliamentary election due in September.

A presidential election is due “one or two months” after that.

Your last post and this post sort of contradict each other.

Dude Pouya, seriously stop beating this drum and celebrating for no reason. Not much will change in the region for Israel.

This is exactly what I predicted: Egypt will stay close to U.S/Israeli Allies because the Army needs U.S aids.

Oh yeah, just in case you missed it: did you hear that Goldstone wants to nullify his report to U.N? Oh yeah, he might also apologize to Israel . Damn Zionists: they bought him too. 😈

  2. iPouya says:

The 2 posts don’t contradict anything. Taken together, it means that Egypt no longer sees Iran as an enemy like it did under Mubarak, but won’t be ruled by Islamists. Is that too difficult for you understand? It’s pretty straight forward and there’s no contradiction whatsoever.

Secondly, all that will remain between Egypt and Israel is the peace treaty. Long gone are those days where Egypt collaborated with murderous Israeli policies to starve the Palestinian people in Gaza. And long gone are those days where Egypt worked with Israel and the US to isolate Iran. Haal kon.

As for Goldstone, here’s a very informative article on his recent turnaround:

Lastly, Arash, stop being a coward and post under your real. If you don’t, I will insert my own name for you like I just did.

p.s. I will celebrate the strategic shifts occurring in the region until the break of dawn baby!!! hugs and kisses.

  3. Pouya:

First of all, this article that posted is an OpED. Good one, but a wishful thinking. Goldstone HAS NEVER EVER TAKEN Israeli invetigation at face value. I don’t hold Goldstone to be G-d, but it does show how irrelevant these international investigation groups are in their investigation. I think it is too little too late.

Second of all: stop utilizing bumper sticker slogans. No body is starving in Gaza. Murderous policies: instead of smuggling Arms, Hamas could/should smuggle food which Israel freely allows to go into Gaza. Howcome there is never shortage of bullets, rockets, and guns in Gaza?! However there is a shortage of food?! Even you said it yourself, Hamas is a people movement grown from the people that’s why their bases are among the citizens. If they are from the people, howcome they don’t look after the well-being of their citizens and smuggle foods. Howcome Hanieh looks fatter and fatter everyday? I thought he must be starving? (BTW: didn’t he marry that 15 or16 year old Palestinian beauty after her husband was killed? He is an honorable man) Israel has not blocked off food to Gaza strip. So the last thing you could do is misrepresent material facts here.

Again: as much as Palestinians HATE and DESPISE Israel and blame Israel for everything (just like you do) even they are starting to see the truth under the rule of Hamas and they are begining to witness the hypocracy that is involved here.

Israel did have Egypt as a partner in terms securing border for Gaza, however the weapons still almost freely passed through Egypt to Gaza. Again, Americans will not allow Egypt turn into Iranian playground for Gaza and Iran. The army is firm on its stand.

Egypt was not the only factor in the region to isolate Iran. Iran has isolated itself and the army in Egypt is well aware of Iran evil intention and this statement could easily prove it. Egypt will have relation with Iran, but it would be in diplomatic levels only. It would not be in the same level as Syria, Turkey, Venezuela who are pretty much the only friends Iran got at this point. Iran is pretty much Isolated and you are joking yourself if you thik otherwise.

About using my name: YOU KEEP FREAKING ERASING MY POSTS YOU COWARD, THAT’S WHY I HAVE TO USE DIFFERENT NAMES.

P.S: it is entertaining to take some times off from work and prove you wrong on your biased vew on Israel. Although you might know a lot about Arab countries, yet you know nothing about Israel or Israeli Palestinian situation simply because you have clouded your mind with too much biased reports and bumper sticker slogans that time is proving to be absolutely wrong.

I don’t know where to start. You give me so much ammunition I’m like a kid at a toy store!

First of all, Iran and Egypt have zero issues to keep them apart now that Mubarak is out. With the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, they only have more in common than anything else so stop using Star Wars’ language about Iran’s “evil” motives when you should be talking about Israel’s evil gradual ethnic cleansing operation in the West Bank and the continued settlement construction/colonization, which is not me misconstruing “material facts” but basically echoing Israeli announcements, i.e. today they announced the construction of 942 more Jewish-only (racist) homes in the West Bank: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-12969424

And I didn’t erase your posts in the past bc they came from you and your name allowed me to know it was you. You always hid behind false names and that never made it difficult to figure out it was you. It was always obvious it was you bc of your poor grammar, endless spelling mistakes, and fixed mythical Israeli narrative that you recycle over and over again. I only erased your posts because you used vulgar language, which people disgusted with you tell me that you still do that on facebook (have some class!) So please, be a man and use your name and stand by what you have to say and say it like a mature adult (I know it’s hard but try!)

In terms of your advocacy of the murderous Israeli policy regarding the Gaza Strip… I want all viewers to pay close attention here, Arash is judging Hamas policy by the size of the waistline of one of its leaders. I mean, WOW. You should go and consult government with that analysis. They’ll pay you millions for such valuable insight! hahahahahahah

And yes, Egypt is breaking w Israel over Gaza and Iran in a big way. You say that Egypt was allowing weapons to be smuggled to Gaza? So how come they were planning on building an underground barrier along the border?

You are delusional to think that there are going to be cosmetic changes in the region. But there’s no point in arguing about what’s going to come. I think we should just sit back and enjoy the show, or rather, I should sit back and enjoy the show. The word on the street is, one-dimensional one-track-minded Zionists like you are not enjoying anything these days!

Take that to the bank baby cakes!
