National Anthems

I dislike national anthems and other displays of nationalism (see my post on flags). Tonight I watched the Eurocup and guess what the Spanish national anthem entailed? It pretty much covered the same stuff as the German national anthem. And even though I didn’t understand either one, I think it’s safe to assume that each talked about how great their countries are while also mentioning glory, honor, history, pride, etc. It’s the same material in just about any national anthem and I think it’s all pretty silly. That’s it. Good night.

Actually, Spain is one of the few countries in the world whose national anthem doesn’t have any words! You might remember that no one was singing anything on the Spanish side yesterday.

All the same… the post applies to all the other anthems that I heard throughout the tournament.

Obviously, in this age of PC (Political Correctness) and the “death of jokes”, no one can tell anything ethnic. But hell, F**k it, I am going to tell one anyway.

It is year 2015. Turkey has finally become part of the European Union while Iran is still a lone Asian country. In 2025 Iran decides to join the European Union, merely because it is a neighboring country to Turkey !! Meanwhile, the falling US Empire of 2030s faces the powerful superpowers of China, India, Europe, and the rest of the world, backed by Russia and Brazil. All these superpowers are preparing for a world war over the limited resources left on planet earth. The European Union starts military maneuvers and training in preparation for the “Big War of 2040”.

So, there are these 4 new paratroopers of the European Union in year 2038, consisting of a French, an Italian, a Turk and a new European member – Iran – all ready to parachute-jump from an EADS-made transport airplane made back in 2012.

The French soldier goes first, singing the national anthem of France and jumps. Next, the Italian soldier goes in front of the door, singing the national anthem of Italy and jumps. Next, the Iranian soldier goes, singing the national anthem of Iran, but he pushes the Turk out of the door !!

    ok, not funny.
Anyways, iPouya, your leftist anti-nationalist attitude is cute and amusing at best. Iran is one of the most fiercely nationalistic nations in the world — for better or for worse. But it seems you only support nationalism when you perceive that the country or people is being overwhelmed by imperialistic forces — but you are blind to the fact that Israel and Jews are constantly bullied by the Islamic world.
I for one am pro-Iranian people and culture, anti-mullacracy. I can be pro-Israel and pro-Iranian nationalism at the same time.

CJ, loved the joke. It was hilarious.

JZ, you don’t know what you’re talking about. I dislike all nationalisms, even the Iranian flavor. But yes, I oppose imperialist bullying whenever and wherever regardless of any nationalism.

And how is Zionism bullied by the Islamic world? And what is this Islamic world you’re talking about? Is it one unified nation? One massive military? Or just a bunch of provinces with corrupt regimes and weak militaries that pay lip service to the legitimate Palestinian cause to legitimize their own dictatorships? The truth is, tiny Israel with its massive American made and funded military is the one doing all the bullying – and ethnic cleansing! While the “Islamic world” talks, Israel cleanses and colonizes (400,000 Zionist colonists in the W Bank). For more postings on recent Israeli colonization, please click on the “Settlements” category on the side bar and you will see recent postings from the BBC about Israel’s proclamations to colonize more!

You are all narrative. The facts (supported by links and references) enumerate otherwise.

What a deep understanding of the Middle East JZ has. Im sure the Israeli downing of a civilian Libyan airliner was also a good example of “Islamic bullying”.
